This past week was my first week on the radio as a guest in regards to my upcoming book, Memoirs of the Bathtub Psychic: The True Story of a Clairvoyant and Her Dogs. With some hosts or producers we talked when the program segments were scheduled. Others were scheduled via e-mail so no conversations took place prior to the on-air interview.
What I found interesting is how I felt after the fact. My job is to call in five minutes prior to on air. I can hear the host introducing the show and in some cases going through announcements or chat prior to my being introduced. Then there is an intense period of talk in the form of an interview and in some cases more of a coffee clutch sort of situation. Some shows take callers where I either answer questions or do mini pet readings on line.
Then the host says thank-you and good bye and the line is disconnected. I sit there holding the phone thinking - ' What? No pillow chat? No morning cup of coffee and scrambled eggs? No exchanging phone numbers and leaving in last night's party dress? Geeze!' It is an odd feeling and in the cases of late night shows I would find myself hyped and up wandering around the house looking for something to do.
I heard Oprah this past week talking with a guest who had a gift of remembering all details. She knew dates of Oprah's shows from over a decade ago and who the guests were and what happened on the show. Oprah said that they film several shows in one day and she never remembers one show from the next and forgets most of the guests! I can understand that after experiencing the intensity of interviews and I am sure more so on the days coming up where I have as many as three shows in a day due to some shows being taped.
But - it is VERY fun and I like that I don't have to travel anywhere and can sit in my comfortable bedroom with India the Newfoundland dog, Isabelle the yellow labrador, and the cats - Sammy, Sidney and Ming all around me while I talk and listen.
This week I will be doing my first taped interview for a show called Monkey Minds! Too fun!!
So true! I think that is a great analogy :)
